The Art Image Library is located in room 110 O'Shaughnessy Hall. Although still closely related to the Department of Art, Art History and Design, the Art Image Library became a branch library of the Universities Libraries in July 2002. The Art Image Library provides photographic images for teaching, research, student slide-presentations and/or historical documentation.
The art image collection consists of approximately 230,000 slides available to all university faculty, students and visiting faculty. Almost all of the slides in the collection are created in-house using copystand facilities in the image library. Including in the collection are 1,290 slides from works of art housed in the Snite Museum of Art.
Over forty (40) web sites have been created for the primary users, the art history faculty for their art history courses. These web sites include images and other related information available only to students enrolled in art history courses. An in-house Filemaker Pro database facilitates access to the collection for teaching and research purposes.
